In Part 1 of this assignment you will read the attached three articles and color code selected passages according to the instructions below. As shown in the video above, you will use Microsoft Wordâs highlighting feature to manage the color coding. Although the approach you will be using is somewhat different than that provided in Reading and Understanding Research Chapter 5, the idea is very much the same. It is important that you NOT highlight everything in the articles related to each category. Highlight only those passages that are essential for understanding what the author(s) are saying. In order to do this successfully, you will need to read each article through once, before highlighting. Once you have done that, you will have an idea of what it is all about and your highlighting will be easier.
Yellow: Research question, hypotheses, reason for the study.
Purple: Who was studied, how large was the sample, how was it selected, what were their characteristics?
Green: What were the variables, what procedures were employed, what comparisons were made? What did the researchers actually do?
Blue: What were the main findings of the study? Note: Do NOT highlight any of the statistical analyses that are presented. Find just the key findings, the passages in the article that directly address the research questions the author(s) started with.
Orange: What are the implications of the study? What are its limitations?
n Part 2 of this project, you will write a brief 200 to 300 word summary of each article using the work you did in Part 1. In writing this summary, be sure to touch on EACH of the elements you highlighted (e.g., who was studied, how were they selected, etc.). The summary should be written in your own words, DO NOT quote extensively (or at all) from the article itself. Be sure to write carefully and proof read your work. Have someone read it back to you out loud. If you have had me before, you know that writing definitely counts. When you are done, please upload your work below.
